 MARLBOROUGH - Sister Regina (Eugenia) Sullivan (Helen Regina Sullivan) died suddenly Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.  She was 87 years of age and had been a Sister of the Good Shepherd for 67 years.

Sister Regina was born in Millis, in 1925, the daughter of the late John Francis Sullivan and Rosemary (McGinnis) Sullivan.

Sister Regina graduated from Millis High School in 1943.  In 1945 she entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Peekskill, N.Y., where she began her formal training in childcare and education. Sister Regina made her first profession in 1948 and pronounced her final vows in 1951.

In 1958 Sister participated in an intensive Child Care training program at St. Louis University, St. Louis, Mo. and went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Emmanuel College in Boston in 1968.  Sister Regina did further study in Special Education at Fordham University in New York where she earned a Master of Science degree and later received an Advanced Certification in Special Education and Supervision from Fordham University.

Sister Regina served for many years in several Good Shepherd residential programs throughout the province.  Sister was a childcare supervisor in Euphrasian Hall and St. Gerard’s Residence at 17th Street, in New York City, St. Germaine’s Home in Peekskill, House of the Good Shepherd in Boston, Madonna Hall for Girls in Marlborough, as well as Madonna Heights in Dix Hills, N.Y.

Using her Special Education training and skills, Sister Regina was also a school administrator and a special education teacher in several Good Shepherd residences throughout the Province.

In 1980 Sister Regina extended her Good Shepherd mission in her work as an Educational Liaison with the Department of Youth Services in Massachusetts.  After her retirement, Sister Regina continued working with youth as a tutor in the Middleboro Public Schools, in Middleboro.

Sister Regina was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Middleboro, and in recent years volunteered her services as a Eucharist Minister to the homebound members of that parish

Sister Regina was a dedicated and gifted “shepherd” who responded to the needs of others with great zeal throughout her life as a Sister of the Good Shepherd.

          Sister Regina leaves many loving nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late John F. Sullivan, Jr., and Katherine Crocetti. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered for Sister Regina Sullivan at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.  Visiting hours at Good Shepherd Center will be held Friday, Feb. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.  Burial will be in Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald and Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.  Expressions of sympathy in honor of Sister Regina may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.  The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a world-wide congregation, was founded in France by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in 1835, in Boston in 1867, in Marlborough in 1964 and in Harwichport, 1993.
