Richard Pimental, 81, of Midland, GA, passed away on March 21, 2023 after a difficult battle with pneumonia and lymphoma.
He was born on December 4, 1941 to Eugene Richard Pimental and Elsie Monteiro Pimental in Fall River, MA. Immediately after graduating high school, he joined the US Army where he went on to serve his country for 32 years.
While in the Army, he did 2 tours in the Vietnam war during which he served as part of the Special Forces Green Berets. His years of service were highly decorated to include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal w/ V, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and more.
In 1961, he met Victoria Rose Zito and they married in 1963. Together they had three children, Eugene Richard Pimental, Elizabeth Renee Yarbrough and Nathan Robert Pimental.
After Richard retired from the army as a Command Sergeant Major, he taught JROTC and coached the Rifle Team at Columbus High School. He also practiced real estate for several years.
After retiring from the workforce in 2007, Richard spent his time hiking, camping, fishing, traveling and golfing.
The most important thing in his life was his wife Vicki, for whom he felt blessed to have her in his life for more than 60+ years and the family they created together. He was a hero and larger than life to all those who were lucky enough to know him. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends.
Richard was predeceased by his wife, Victoria Pimental, and brothers, Ricky Pimental and Jerry Pimental. He is survived by sister Shirley Berube, son Gene Pimental, daughter-in-law Kristin Pimental, daughter Renee Yarbrough, son-in-law Scot Yarbrough, son Nathan Pimental, grandchildren Kayla Brown, Ethan Pimental, Kristine Corona, Amanda Collins, Timothy Collins, Jamie Lyn Yarbrough, Davis Yarbrough, Noah Pimental, and Alexander Pimental. Great grandchildren William Corona, Libby Corona, Caroline Corona, and Ella Brown.
A funeral service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
