Marlborough- Kenneth V. McKenzie, 77, a retired Captain with the Marlborough Fire Department died Wednesday March 29, 2023 at UMASS Medical Center in Worcester after respiratory distress.

He was born and raised in Marlborough, the son of the late Vesper and Mercedes (Bouffard) McKenzie and was a graduate of Marlborough High School Class of 1963. After high school, Ken joined the United States Army National Guard, where his training took him to Fort Dix and Fort Drum, where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. Ken was married in 1966 and started a family on French Hill. In 1967, Ken became a firefighter for the City of Marlborough for 33 years. Ken took great pride to be one of Marlborough’s first EMT’s. During his time in the fire service Ken was an Arson Investigator and rose to the rank of Captain, then retired in 2000. Ken was very proud to have served the citizens’ of Marlborough and spoke very highly of his extended family at Marlborough Fire Department.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping as a young man and into his senior years. Ken would tell many fond memories of hunting with his buddies, the Duca’s, the Ferrechia’s, the Caferrelli’s and the Foti’s. Many deer seasons would be spent in northern Vermont and Maine (Camp Wapiti). Ken also loved to fish the local ponds and from his boat the “My Tyme” off the coast of New England. Additionally, Ken enjoyed ATVing in Northern Maine.

If Ken wasn’t in the great outdoors, he was with friends and family.

He leaves his son Marlborough Police Sgt. Kenneth V. McKenzie, Jr. and his wife Tamzen of Shrewsbury; his daughter Linda M. McKenzie of Marlborough; her significant other, Richard Bissonnette, two sisters, Suzanne West and Jane LaBossiere both of Florida; four grandchildren, Trooper Christopher S.
