Marlborough – Iuliana (Buru) Barna, 71, of Marlborough, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, November 27, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Valean Barna, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born in Sacosu Turcesc, Timis, Romania, Iuliana was the daughter of the late Nicolae and Ana (Daia) Buru. She moved to Ottawa, Canada with her family in 1992, where she became a Canadian citizen. She then moved to Marlborough 25 years ago, where she built a loving home and became a cherished member of the community.
Iuliana was a dedicated and accomplished professional. She earned an Associates degree at Algonquin College in Ottawa Canada and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Northeastern University. Throughout her career, she worked for several notable companies, bringing her expertise and work ethic to each role. Throughout her career she worked at AEM in Timisoara, Romania, Digital in Kanata, ON, Canada, Compaq in Salem, NH, and Hewlett-Packard in Marlborough, MA. Iuliana's most recent position was at Hutchinson Aerospace & Industry Inc in Hopkinton, MA.
She was a former member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church in Shrewsbury. Iuliana's love for her family was immeasurable, and she took great joy in her three grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Her fondest memories were made during family trips to Hampton Beach, where she enjoyed spending time with her loved ones.
Iuliana had an incredible passion for reading and was known for her wealth of knowledge on a variety of subjects. She also loved to cook, often preparing elaborate meals for family gatherings and always putting the needs of those around her before her own. Iuliana's selflessness, loving nature, and her unwavering willingness to help others will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Valean Barna; her son, Ciprian Barna and his wife Tatsiana of Southborough; her daughter, Simona Barna Hythason and her husband Gerson Schemmilpfennig of Marlborough; her sister, Maria Buru of Timisoara, Timis, Romania; and three grandchildren, Thompson and Alisa Barna of Southborough, and Lianna Barna Hythason of Marlborough.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 3-5 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
