Helen Sanders Obituary

Marlborough- Helen E. (Thompson) Sanders, 95, formerly of Marlborough died Sunday January 10, 2021 at her residence in Suwanee, Georgia. She was the wife of the late Leslie E. Sanders who died in 1991.  She was born, raised, and educated in Shirley, the daughter of the late Theodore and Louise (Cheverett) Thompson.  She was a graduate of Shirley High School Class of 1943.  Helen worked for Atlantic Management Co. in Framingham for 23 years as a bookkeeper and office manager. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Marlborough.

When she was younger, Helen was very creative knitting mittens for winter wear as well as Easter sport coats and dresses for her children.  She was an avid reader, spending countless hours on her deck, enjoying the sun, even during cool New England days.  She loved the outdoors, whether camping, doing yard work, biking, or jogging on the city trails.  After Leslie passed, she became an international traveler enjoying such varied activities as climbing the harbor bridge in Sydney, Australia or cruising in the Mediterranean Ocean.  But her greatest pride and joy was her family.  She instilled in her children a sense of purpose and provided them a strong moral compass, thus making them her greatest legacy.

She leaves a son Leslie A. (Sandy) Sanders of Del Rio, Texas and a daughter Barbara M. (Bobbi) Mendrala of Duluth, Georgia; five grandchildren – Joshua, Ann-Marie, Michael, Bradley, Katie; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Lillian Savalier and Pauline Valeri.

A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to a charity.  All are invited to sign Helen’s online guestbook at www.CollinsFuneral.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Collins Funeral Home, 37 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
