Obituary

Guilherme de Melo Gouveia, 89, died Saturday October 30, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was the husband of the late Delvina Gouveia.  He was born in and raised in the parish of Ribeirinha, Azores, Portugal. He is the son of Guilherme Govea and Filomena de Melo Machado. In his younger years he worked as a shepherd in Portugal and in 1971 he migrated to Toronto, Canada.

In Toronto, Guilherme worked in the construction industry.  He had many hobbies such as gardening and cheese making. He supplied the Portuguese community with freshly made cheese which he made out of his basement.

Guilherme enjoyed the outdoors and going for long walks.  Even while traveling to Brazil, Florida and Massachusetts he would take long walks around the neighborhood, socializing with everyone he met. He also loved to make people laugh, especially his grandchildren.

He was very religious and he preached the Christian gospel to everyone he met. While in good health, he visited the sick and poor at St. Joseph’s hospital.

He leaves 3 sons, Manny, Joe, and Glen; 3 daughters, Maria, Ursulina, and Nelia; 3 stepdaughters, Linda, Eusa, and Rosilene; 1 stepson Eddie, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
