Gersio Lopes Ferreira

Gersio, conhecido pelos amigos da juventude pelo apelido de Índio, era um jovem brasileiro que chegou na América no ano 1985. Como muitos antes e depois dele, veio com a intenção
de realizar o sonho de ter uma vida melhor, juntar umas economias e depois retornar ao Brasil. A princípio residiu no estado de New Jersey na região de Newark. Ali teve a oportunidade de
conhecer muitos brasileiros daquela comunidade, chegou a frequentar uma igreja chamada CEVA, onde conheceu muitas pessoas e fez amizades. Como ele mesmo dizia, gostava muito
de jogar sinuca e segundo ele chegou a disputar um torneio e sagrou-se campeão. Depois de anos em Nova Jersey, Gersio mudou-se para a região da Nova Inglaterra e passou a
morar em Marlborough-MA. Sempre foi uma pessoa muito trabalhadora, confiável, temperamental, mas mesmo sendo uma pessoa reservada, conquistou muitas amizades. Era
bastante prendado, trabalhava na área de carpintaria, pintura, reforma de banheiros e assentador de cerâmicas e azulejos. Gostava aos domingos pela manhã ou a noite, ir à igreja
cultuar a Deus. Chegou a frequentar a igreja batista Mirav em Marlborough do pastor Robert Paiva, assim como a igreja Assembleia de Deus do pastor Marlon Reis.

Segundo relatos de pessoas que o conheciam com mais amiúde, já nos seus 65 anos de idade tinha o desejo de retornar ao Brasil para ter a oportunidade de rever os familiares ainda vivos e
os velhos amigos da juventude. Infelizmente não pode realizar este sonho. No últimos meses deixava a entender que estava sentindo-se não muito bem, com dores e queimação na área da
bexiga. Chegou a ficar internado por 3 dias num hospital onde recebeu cuidados médicos. Estava usando um cateter e na última quinta-feira dia 09 de fevereiro foi encontrado sem vida
no local de sua residência, por amigos que moravam com ele no mesmo endereço. Natural de São Caetano do Sul, SP, filho de Antônio Lopes Ferreira e Maria Lopes Ferreira já
falecidos, tem no Brasil a irmã Maria Aparecida Bittencourt muito apegada a Gersio e que foi bastante impactada com o seu obituário. Quando tinha 28 anos de idade, Gersio tinha uma
namorada no Brasil, Solange, com a qual pretendia se casar, mas houve um desentendimento entre eles e o noivado terminou, o que resultou em sua vinda imediata para a América. Mesmo
depois de 38 anos, pretendiam reatar o noivado e se tornarem marido e mulher. Ele prometeu voltar para casar-se com ela e continuar aquilo que começara, mas o destino foi outro,
infelizmente.

Com certeza sua partida prematura deixa uma grande lacuna no coração de todos os seus familiares, amigos, daqueles que o conheciam, dos seus colegas de trabalho e dos irmãos das
igrejas onde frequentava. A você que deseja colaborar com os custos do funeral, sinta-se em liberdade de ofertar aquilo que Deus propôs no seu coração. A família do saudoso Gersio agradece do fundo do seu coração.

“Eu sei que o meu Redentor vive e que no fim se levantará sobre a terra. E, depois que o meu corpo estiver destruído e sem carne, verei a Deus.” (Jó 19:25-26)

Gersio, known to his youth friends by the nickname Índio, was a young Brazilian who arrived in America in 1985. Like many before and after him, he came with the intention of fulfilling his
dream of having a better life, gathering some savings and then return to Brazil. At first he resided in the state of New Jersey in the Newark region. There he had the opportunity to meet
many Brazilians from that community, he even attended a church called CEVA, where he met many people and made friends.  As he himself said, he really liked playing snooker and according to him he even played in a tournament and became champion. After years in New Jersey, Gersio moved to the New England region and lived in Marlborough-MA. He was always a very hardworking, reliable, temperamental person, but even though he was a reserved person, he gained many friendships. He was very gifted, working in the area of carpentry, painting, bathroom remodeling and ceramic and tile installer. He liked to go to church on Sunday mornings or evenings to worship God. He attended Pastor Robert Paiva Mirav Baptist Church in Marlborough, as well as Pastor Marlon Reis; Assembly of God church.

According to reports from people who knew him more often, already at the age of 66 he had the desire to return to Brazil to have the opportunity to see his family members still alive and the old
friends of his youth. He unfortunately he could not realize this dream. For the last few months he has let it be understood that he has been feeling not very well at all. He was found lifeless at his place of residence, by friends who lived with him at the same address.

Born in São Caetano do Sul, SP, son of Antônio Lopes Ferreira and Maria Lopes Ferreira, now deceased, he has in Brazil his sister Maria Aparecida Bittencourt, who is very attached to
Gersio and who was greatly impacted by her obituary. When he was 28 years old, Gersio had a girlfriend in Brazil, Solange, whom he intended to marry, but there was a disagreement between
them and the engagement ended, which resulted in his immediate coming to America. Even after 38 years, they intended to renew their engagement and become husband and wife. He
promised to return to marry her and continue what he started, but fate was different, unfortunately.  His premature departure certainly leaves a big gap in the hearts of all his family, friends, those
who knew him, his work colleagues and the brothers of the churches where he attended. To you who wish to collaborate with the funeral costs, feel free to offer what God has proposed in your
heart. The family of the late Gersio thanks you from the bottom of their hearts. 

Visitation will be held in the funeral home Monday February 20 from 7-9 PM.
