Eleanor “Ellie” M. (Sawicki) Conrad, 92, formerly of Hudson/Marlborough, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in West Boylston after a long period of declining health.
She leaves a son, David Conrad, and his partner Ruth Miller of Oxford, a daughter, Charlene Poulos, and her husband Bruce, and a granddaughter, Emily Poulos of Worcester. She is also survived by three nieces, Ann Marie, Cheryl, and Joann, along with many dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, and her brother Charles Jr.
She was born in Worcester, daughter of Charles and Olga (Erickson) Sawicki. She attended Commerce High in Worcester, later working for Sears Roebuck Co. She met her husband Kenneth Conrad in Worcester, moving to Hudson and raising her family. They were happily married until his death in 1988. Eleanor worked at the Wildwood Restaurant in Marlboro for many years, retiring from waitressing at 50. She then began a new career of caregiving for elderly which was her ultimate passion. She was often sought out by people to care for their parents due to her fine reputation of compassion and caring.
Eleanor was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles where she served as Chaplin. She enjoyed cooking and eating what she made, often exclaiming “Delicious!”. Many of her recipes have been handed down such as shepherds pie, banana bread, grapenut custard pudding, to name a few. She had the gift of gab. When you first met her, she would be sure to ask what your horoscope was and then continue to give a reading. Oh, how she loved the Casino (Foxwoods), you would see her in the wee hours of the morning sitting at the slot machine. She was a kid at heart, loved a lot of fun, and was a master at joke telling. She was telling jokes to the end. This special person will be missed and never forgotten by family, friends and all who knew her.
A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 26th from 10 AM - 11 AM at Collins Funeral Home, located at 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough, MA 01752 with burial following at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Smile Train or Shriners Hospitals.
