Cecil Gopaul Obituary

Boston - Cecil A. Gopaul, 88, of Boston died on Friday October 15, 2021, at Boston Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Merlyn J. (Singh) Gopaul.  Cecil was born in Sangre Grande, Trinidad and Tobago, the son of the late Philip and Authoria (Lobin) Gopaul. He was a graduate of Mausica Teachers College. Cecil was a middle school teacher at Chaguanas Junior Secondary School (Trinidad). He was a Deacon and longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Brookline. Cecil loved Cricket and played semi-professionally in Trinidad and Tobago for 40 years where he still holds the best bowling record in central Trinidad ( 9 wickets for 5 runs) during a county final with Esmeralda Sport Cricket team. He retired from playing cricket at the age of 50. He was also a Collegiate Track & Field athlete and enjoyed soccer and reading. He was a gifted woodworking craftsman. Cecil will be remembered for his willingness to help others his kindness, his generosity,  his compassion but most of all his outspoken and honest nature.

 

He leaves behind four sons, Wayne and Larry Gopaul both of Fitchburg, Leyland Gopaul of Framingham, Wesley Gopaul of Marlborough; and daughter, Armelia Mohammed of Trinidad and Tobago, his twin sister Cecilia Samaroo of Florida and Sybil Gopaul of Trinidad and Tobago; eight grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Nicholas, Tia, Crystal, Anya, Farhanah and Salma; he was the great grandfather of Chloe Gopaul, Elysia & Charlotte Rampersad and the father in law of Gail and Sherry Gopaul, Haseeb Mohammed and Leila Phillip he was predeceased by his siblings, Herbert, Rebecca, Ruby, Eva, Jean and Sadie and his grandson Christian; The family would like to thank his closest friend Burton Howell of Boston and his caretaker Ruth. 


A funeral service will be held Wednesday October 20 at 11:00 am in the First Presbyterian Church of Brookline, 32 Harvard Street, Brookline. Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to First Presbyterian Church of Brookline, 32 Harvard Street, Brookline, MA 02445.
