Beverly Cousin Obituary

Beverly Jean Cropper-Cousin, age 73 of Worcester, MA, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. She was born to the late James Cropper, Jr., and Daisy Mae Cropper in New Orleans, LA, on November 26, 1947. Beverly married Lawrence Cousin, Jr, on October 9, 1965, in Lacombe, LA. Though Beverly did not complete high school, in 1996, she received her Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED). After moving to Massachusetts in 1997, she earned an associate degree from Quinsigamond Community College, a bachelor's from Anna Maria and a Master’s in Social Work from Assumption
College in 2004. Beverly started motherhood at the young age of 15, and before her 21st birthday, she was mother to five, and then added three more, with the last two being a generation apart from the first. Beverly’s love was shown through her care for her children. Her passion was sewing, earlier in life it was making clothes for her children, each telling a story of their best or worst outfit. She enjoyed lavish wardrobes which she designed and created well into her 60s. Beverly’s other passion was the ministry. She was ordained by Mother Cecelia Wilkerson as a Missionary and Evangelist. Under the guidance of Bishop Thomas B. Watson, she became an Archbishop and went on to establish St. Raymond Spiritual Church. She loved sharing scripture and her faith with all whom she encountered. She was a member of Belmont Street A.M.E. Zion church.

Beverly is survived by seven children; Ellis James Cropper of Southbridge, MA; Tonya Marie Cropper of Cambridge, MA; Alicia Cousin of Kenner, LA; Lawrence Cousin II of Houston, TX; Lillie Cousin of Cambridge, MA; Shareef Cousin of Slidell, LA; and Leo Sterling of Colorado; fifteen grandchildren;
Morgan Thompson, Latisha and Raymond Cropper; Nichelle and Adia Cousin; Aityana Cousin; Lawrence “Trey” III and Laurynn Cousin; Sade, Shareef “Reefy” Jr, Yasir, and Blake Cousin; and Niya, Taviana, and Marvel Sterling; and five siblings; Janice Hewitt, Patricia Roussel, Dr. Rosalind Cropper, Jimmie Cropper, and Leroy Cropper. Beverly was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter, Toyna Ann Cousin, grandson Gavin Cousin,
and sister Brenda Steward.

Beverly’s wishes were to be cremated. Thanks to Collins Funeral Home, Inc., 378 Lincoln St. Marlboro, MA  who took care of the final arrangements. We would also like to thank all the care providers that made it possible for her to spend her last three years in her own apartment, especially Emma Pace
who was there on day one. Emma treated her like, and even called her “Mom.” Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a private memorial service for family and close friends on January 30, 2021. If you would like to participate in and or donate to the service, please reach out to one of the seven children listed above.
