MARLBOROUGH - William D. Murphy, 82, of Ayer and formerly of Marlborough, died at home Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012. He was the husband of Mary F. (LaCroix) Murphy who died in 1991. The son of the late Charles and Emma (Goss) Murphy, he was born, raised and educated in Marlborough and was a graduate of Marlborough High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. A machinist at Omnirel in Leominster for 13 years and retiring in 2001, he previously worked for Adage Corp. in Billerica, Data Terminal Systems in Maynard as a project engineer, Bose Corporation in Framingham and H. H. Scott in Maynard. He was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church, VFW Post # 1027 in Hudson, AmVets Post 1980 in Marlborough and the American Legion Post 429 in Fitchburg.
He leaves a son, Lawrence W. "Larry" Murphy of Apopka, Fla.; three brothers, Charles Murphy, Jr. and Paul Murphy, both of Marlborough, and George Murphy of South Carolina; and two grandchildren, Shara of Berkley, Calif. and Joshua Murphy of Marshfield. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Klimczak and Joan Staneshewski.
His funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Prospect Street, Marlborough. Burial with military honors will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Beach Street. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home ( www.CollinsFuneral.com ), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home ( www.CollinsFuneral.com ), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
