Obituary

Berlin- William D. Dowling, 75, of Berlin died Tuesday May 31, 2011 at his home.  He was born, raised and educated in Paterson, NJ, the son of the late William and Anna (Kennedy) Dowling, of Ireland. Upon graduation from St. Joseph's High School he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for four years stationed at Sampson Air Force Base in New York and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Before becoming a self-employed antiques dealer, Bill was a consultant in the commercial division of Sears and Schofield for many years. Bill was a talented artisan who made one of a kind magnifying glasses and walking sticks. He was known as a strong, charismatic and generous man, and for his kindness to others. He had a quick wit and enjoyed a good joke or story, as his eyes twinkled with good humor. He leaves his son Timothy S. Dowling of Milford; three daughters, Kathleen A. Dowling of South Berwick, Maine, Jeanne M. Dowling of Frenchtown, NJ and Annie R. Dowling of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin; his twin brother Robert Dowling of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and his sister Roseanne Stringer of Whiting, NJ; many nephews and nieces; and several close friends including Cora Brown of Sudbury, Bruce, Scott, and Gary Sweeney of Wayland, Keith Felt of Hudson, and Jim Hicks of New Ipswich, NH. Bill was predeceased by his daughter, Tricia A. Dowling of South Berwick, Maine.

A graveside service with Military honors will be held Monday June 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.  An Irish Wake to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday evening at J.J. McKay's, 171 Commonwealth Road, Wayland from 5-7 p.m. There is no funeral home calling hours.   All are invited to sign his online guestbook at www.CollinsFuneral.com .
