Marlborough – Sister Yvonne Werner, a Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Yvonne Therese, died at the age of 95 at Marie Esther Health Center in this city on Friday, February 21, 2014 in the 74th year of vowed religious life. She was born in Marlborough, the daughter of Vincent-de-Paul Werner and Georgeline Robert Werner. She was predeceased by her three brothers: Vincent, Robert, and John and her four sisters: Lillian, Kathleen, Claire and Irene.  She completed her elementary education in Marlborough and obtained her high school diploma from the former Saint Anne Academy in Marlborough, MA.  She held diplomas in Home Economics and in Visual Arts, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master's degree in History.

In 1938, she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of Saint Anne in Lachine, Quebec, and professed vows in 1940.  She spent her professional years in Quebec in education, community finances, and administrative positions.  She served as professor and administrator in Quebec schools staffed and sponsored by the Sisters of St. Anne. She served as a translator and also worked for the Quebec department of Education for the French Language office.

In 2004, she returned to the United States and moved to St. Anne Convent in Marlborough where she rendered innumerable community services especially to the residents of Marie Esther Health Center.

Sister Yvonne is mourned and will be held in fond memory by her Sisters in religion and by her many nieces and nephews and extended family members.

She will be waked at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road, Marlboro, on Sunday, February 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a prayer service.  The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 24 at 10:00 am in the convent chapel with burial in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Marlboro.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
