Sister Ann Sebastian Roussel (Jane Marie) died on December 14, 2025 at Bethany Health Center in Framingham after a long illness. She was 94 years of age and had been a Contemplative Sister of the Good Shepherd for 72 years.
Sister Ann Sebastian was born in 1931 in Fall River, Massachusetts. She attended Mary Immaculate High School and graduated in 1948. Sister entered the Novitiate of the Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Peekskill, NY in 1953 where she received her formal training in the life and works of the Contemplative community. Sister made her first vows in 1955 and pronounced her final vows in 1961. After her years of training Sister Ann was missioned to Boston, MA where she engaged in the work of the Contemplative community baking altar breads and sewing. Sister also lovingly cared for her sisters in the infirmary. Sister continued this work at Mount Florence, Peekskill, NY and later in Marlborough, MA. In 1986 Sister Ann studied for certification as a nurse's aide and received her CNA certificate. Sister spent many years caring for the sick and infirm in Peekskill, NY, Marlborough, MA and Springfield, MA until her retirement in 1998. Sister was truly dedicated to her work in health ministry.
In 1998 Sister was missioned to Good Shepherd Center in Marlborough, MA where she continued her ministry of prayer and Congregational service. For many years Sister Ann served as sacristan in our chapel. Needing more care, Sister Ann was then missioned to Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham, MA. Sister was a very prayerful woman with a heart of gold and a ready smile. She will surely be missed by those who knew and loved her through the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Sister Ann Sebastian on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA. Burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. www.collinsfuneral.com. Expressions of sympathy in Sister Ann Sebastian's memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 420 Hemenway Street, Apt. 466, Marlborough, MA 01752.
The Sisters of the Good Shepherd were founded by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in Angers, France in 1835, in the United States (Louisville, KY) in 1843, and in Boston in 1867.
