MARLBOROUGH – Sister Rita Robert, a Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Mary Antonia of Jesus, died at the age of 89 at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough, on Wednesday, January 2, 2008. She was in her 66th year of religious life. She was the daughter of the late Donat and Antoinette (Levreault) Robert of Chicopee Falls, MA. She completed her elementary education at St. George School in that city and received her high school diploma from St. Anne Academy, Marlborough. She also obtained a B.Ed. degree from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI, and a M.S. E. degree from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. She entered the Novitiate of the Congregation in Lachine, Quebec, in 1939 and was professed in 1941. She began her teaching mission in Rigaud, Quebec, before returning to the U.S. in 1943. Here, she served as professor, principal, and secretary in schools located in Central Falls, RI; Worcester, Ludlow, and Holyoke, MA for 40 years. In 1982, she transferred to St. Anne Convent, Marlborough, where she worked as receptionist and secretary until failing health obliged her to relinquish some of her tasks. Sister is survived by her brother Lionel Robert and his wife Ann, of Chicopee, MA, and by several nephews and nieces. She will be waked January 4, at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated, Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Convent Chapel with burial in Saint Mary Cemetery, Marlborough.
