Sister Mary Dominica, RGS (Antonetta Rinaldi) died at St. Patrick's Manor Friday, Sept. 27, 2013 after a long illness.  She was 90 years of age and had been a Sister of the Good Shepherd for 62 years. Sister Dominica was born in Boston, the daughter of the late John and Maria (Pennacchio) Rinaldi.  She was educated at St. Anthony's School and Girls' High School in Boston.  Sister received degrees in secretarial sciences from Maria College in Albany, N.Y. and Pace University, Pleasantville, N.Y. In 1951, Sister entered the Good Shepherd Novitiate in Peekskill, N.Y. to begin her formal training for her long career ministering to girls and women in need of care and education.  She made her first profession in 1954 and pronounced her final vows in 1957.

Sister Dominica's many talents found expression in a variety of ways including her business skills as a secretary, bookkeeper and buyer.  Her expertise as a seamstress kept her busy not only making habits for the Sisters, but also teaching the art of sewing to the girls in residence. Sister also spent some time on our mission in Africa where she taught sewing to the girls in our Good Shepherd program. Sister was a child-care supervisor at St. Germaine's Home in Peekskill, Villa Loretto in Peekskill, at St. Anne's Institute in Albany, and in the Good Shepherd program at East 17 th Street, in New York City. In Morristown, N.J. she was in the accounting office and in Jamaica, N.Y., she served as archivist for the New York Province.  She also worked in the Catholic Migration Office in Brooklyn. Sister was active in the Handcrafting Justice program, a mission outreach project partnering with women in Good Shepherd programs in developing countries, to market their handcraft products here in the United States. Sister was also missioned to Madonna Hall in Marlborough.  Sister's zeal was not limited to the United States.  She was missioned to Rome, where she handled the secretarial work in the office of Monsignor William Doheny, a member of the Roman Rota Court.  In Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. she worked with the Good Shepherd Associates, a dedicated group of people involved in the Good Shepherd mission.  Sister Dominica is survived by her sister, Josephine Cioffi of East Boston, and her nieces and nephews and their families. She was the sister of the late Philomena Giagonelli and Michael Rinaldi, both of East Boston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., for Sister Dominica at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough. Visiting hours at Good Shepherd Center will be held Monday, Sept. 30, from 4-8 p.m., with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m.  Burial will be in Mt. Florence Cemetery in Peekskill.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home ( www.CollinsFuneral.com ), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.   Expression of sympathy in honor of Sister Dominica may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.  The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a world-wide congregation, was founded in France by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in 1835, in Boston in 1867, in Marlborough in 1964 and in Harwichport, 1993.
