Marlborough- Sister Josephine Mt. Carmel Pinizzotto died on June 11, 2015 at Bethany Health Care Center, Framingham, MA after a long illness. She was 93 years of age and had been a Contemplative Sister of the Good Shepherd for 75 years. Sister Josephine was born in 1922 in New York City, NY, the daughter of Rosario and Carmela (Dottoli) Pinizzotto. After graduation from high school, Sister Josephine entered the Novitiate of the Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Peekskill, NY in 1940. Sister pronounced her vows of Profession in 1943 and began her life of prayer and service in the ministry of the Contemplative Sisters. Sister Josephine generously gave of her skills and talents in the baking and distribution of altar breads as well as in the sewing department. She served in several missions in the New York Province; namely, Peekskill, NY, Hartford, CT, Dix Hills, NY and Marlborough, MA. In 2012, due to failing, health Sister Josephine was missioned to Bethany Health Care Center in Framingham, MA where she continued her ministry of prayer. Sister Josephine is survived by her sister, Sr. Benigna Consolata, O'Carm of Bronx, NY and several nieces and nephews. Sr. Josephine is predeceased by her brother, Anthony Palmieri and sister, Anna Mazzucca.
Visiting hours will be at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough on Tuesday, June 16 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Sister Josephine at Good Shepherd Center on Wednesday, June 17 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd were founded by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in Angers, France in 1835, in the United States (Louisville, KY) in 1843, and in Boston in 1867.
