Marlborough : Sister Yvonne Papineau, a Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Marie-du-Calvaire, died at the age of 100 at Marie Esther Health Center on March 17, 2015. She was in the 80 th year of vowed religious life. She was a daughter of Valmore and Herminie (Fredette) Papineau of Central Falls, RI and one of twelve children. She graduated from the former St. Anne Academy in this city and earned a Bachelor's degree in Education from Catholic Teachers College in Providence, RI. In 1933, she joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec and pronounced vows in 1935. She returned to the United States and began a long and successful teaching career in schools staffed by the Sisters throughout New England, in North Adams, Worcester, Marlboro, Ludlow and Webster MA, in Cohoes, NY and Central Falls, RI. She also taught and was a librarian in Bradenton, Florida before retiring from teaching. In her retirement years, she was an aide and seamstress for the convent and for Marie Esther Health Center, Marlborough. In addition to her religious community, she is mourned by her brother, Mr. Valmore Papineau and Brother Francis Papineau, nieces and nephews.
Sister Yvonne will be waked at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough on Friday, March 20 from 2-4 pm with a prayer service at 4 pm. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 21, at 10 am in the convent chapel. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home ( www.CollinsFuneral.com ), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Memorial contributions may be made in Sister Papineau's name to the Sisters of St Anne, Marlborough, or to a charity of your choice.
