Obituary

Sister Miriam Moroney (Miriam A. Moroney) died at Alliance Health Care Center, Marlborough, MA on May 28, 2026 after a long illness. She was 84 years of age and had been a Sister of the Good Shepherd for 67 years.

Sister Miriam was born in Danbury, CT in 1941, the daughter of James and Teresa (Owen) Moroney.

Sister Miriam entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Peekskill, NY on September 8,1959 and began her formal training in the Good Shepherd mission. She made her first vows in May of 1962 and her perpetual vows in 1967.

Sister earned her undergraduate degree in Education from Fordham University, NY and a Master of Education from Boston College. Sister later received a Master of Science degree in Clinical Pastoral Counseling from Emmanuel College in Boston, MA

Sister Miriam served in many of the Good Shepherd Residential Programs throughout the New York Province as a Teacher and Child Care supervisor, including Madonna Hall for Girls in Marlborough, MA (1966-74) Sister was also local community leader in Albany, NY, for six years; served on the Province Council for six years and as Province Leader (1983-89). Before retiring, Sister was a clinical therapist at the Good Shepherd Maria Droste Services program in Quincy, MA.

Throughout her years of service in the various programs in the Province, Sister Miriam had a great love for the girls in her care. In her counseling work at Maria Droste Services in Quincy she served her clients with loving compassion and devoted kindness. Sister Miriam was a wise and forward looking Province Leader. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd mourn her loss.

Sister is predeceased by her sister, Maryann O’Sullivan and her brother Michael Moroney. Sister is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Moroney of Rangley, ME, and by her many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Sister Miriam at 10:30 AM in Alliance Health Care Center, 720 Boston Post Road, Marlborough, MA on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 with a viewing at 9:30 AM. Burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Collins Funeral Home 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough, MA, Expressions of sympathy in memory of Sister Miriam may be sent to Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 420 Hemenway Street, Apt. 466, Marlborough, MA 01752

The Sisters of the Good Shepherd were founded by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in Angers, France in 1835, in the United States (Louisville, KY) 1843, and Boston in 1867.
