Obituary

MARLBOROUGH - Sister Mary Camille, R.G.S. (Fe Madarang), 81, died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Worcester, after a long period of ill health. She had been a Good Shepherd Sister for 47 years. Born in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines, the daughter of Enrique and Catalina (Pablo) Madarang, she was educated at Zambales Academy in the Philippines, at Centro Escolor University in the pre-med program, also in the Philippines, and received her R.N. from the Philippine General School of Nursing in 1950. Sister Camille entered the Good Shepherd Novitiate in Peekskill, N.Y., in 1959 to prepare for her long career in caring for the poor and the marginalized of society, with special focus on teenage girls. After final vows in 1962, she was assigned to St. Germaine's Home in Peekskill as infirmarian and camp nurse, and was subsequently missioned to E. 17th St. in New York City, serving as child care supervisor at St. Gerard's Home where she also taught religion and basic health skills. After a second assignment to St. Germaine's, where she resumed her duties as camp nurse, infirmarian, child care supervisor and teacher of health and math, her skills were requested in Hartford, Conn., and also in Morristown, N.J., where she served as infirmarian, camp nurse, and taught courses in health, math, a nurse's aide course, and arts and crafts. In the 1980s, she worked in the business office at the Good Shepherd Provincialate in Jamaica, N.Y., and as cook for the community. She then became staff nurse at St. Clare's Hospital, Cabrini Medical Center, and at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary, all in New York City. In the 1990s, she provided health services at the Euphrasian Residence, and at the medical clinic of Good Shepherd Services in New York City. She volunteered her services on weekends as a CCD teacher and as a member of the folk choir at St. Emeric's Church and Immaculate Conception Church in New York. Sister Camille was missioned to Good Shepherd Center in Marlborough in July 2006, where she was involved in the ministry of prayer and congregational service. She leaves her cousins, Gloria Canonizado of North Carolina and Enya M. Redolfin of California, and other cousins from North Carolina, California and New Jersey. She was predeceased by her brother, the Rev. Prudencio F. Macayon, S.J. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Wednesday, June 20, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Center, Marlborough, by Rev. Robert Rivard of the Sons of Mary, Framingham. Burial will be in Mount Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury. Visiting hours are today, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Good Shepherd Center, Marlborough, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald and Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough (www.sfcfh.com).
