Marlborough- Sr. Ruth Divine Infant Howard, RGS, a Contemplative Sister of the Good Shepherd died early Sunday morning at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham, MA . Sister died very unexpectedly. She was 91 years of age and had been Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd for 61years. Sister was born in Stillmore, GA she was the daughter of Bishop Jessie L and Susie (Williams) Howard. She
had her education in Stillmore, GA. She entered the Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Calverton, MD. She professed her First Vows on July 22, 1952 and
on July 22, 1958 professed her Final Vows. Sister Ruth in the early 1960's asked to be transferred to the New York Province, where she worked in the sewing
department and the Altar Bread making. Sister worked for many years in the infirmary very devoted to our sick and frail Sisters. In her later years she enjoyed sewing and crafts. In the early part of this year due to her failing health, Sister was missioned to St. Patrick's Manor. There she continued to have her life of prayer and touched the lives of all those who came in contact with her. Sister leaves a dear friend Rev Edward Hill, cousins and many dear friends. Visiting hours at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough is Tuesday 4-8. A prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday Aug. 12 at 10:00 AM at Good Shepherd Center and burial will follow at Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Expressions of sympathy in Sister Ruth's memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA 01752. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd were founded by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in France in 1835, in the United States (Louisville, Ky) in 1843, New York, 1957, Boston, 1867, and Harwichport, 1993.
