Sister Ann Gabriel Gomolka, Sister of the Good Shepherd Contemplative Community died Monday June 25, 2007 at Epoch of Harwich, Nursing and Rehab Center in Harwich after a long illness. She was 93 years of age and had been a Sister of the Good Shepherd for 69 years. A native of Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of Michael and Berta (Data) Gomolka. She attended school in the CT School System. In Sept 1938, Sister Ann Gabriel entered the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, Contemplative Community, in Peekskill NY. The community has a lifestyle of praying for all the needs of God's people. Besides her ministry to pray, she was assigned to the Sewing Dept., and various services within the community. She loved to sing, which enhanced her life and the lives of others during the many Liturgies of community. She professed her First Vows on July 22, 1941 at Peekskill, NY. In 2005, due to failing health she was missioned to Epoch of Harwich. Sister Ann Gabriel received excellent care and concern from the staff at Epoch, which made her stay at the Nursing Home comfortable. Mr. Edward O'Connor, nephew, and Ms Marilyn O'Connor, niece, both of East Hanover, NJ and several nieces and nephews survive Sister Ann Gabriel. Visiting hours at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway St., Marlboro, MA will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30pm. . A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Center Chapel in Marlboro at 11:00 am on Friday, June 29, 2007. Interment will be immediately following at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury. Expressions of sympathy in Sister Ann Gabriel's memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 88 Bank Street, Harwichport, MA 02646 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough, MA. Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a worldwide Congregation, were founded in France by St. Mary Euphrasia in 1835. They came to Boston in 1867, to Marlboro in 1964 and to Harwich in 1990.
