Obituary

MARLBOROUGH- Sister Mary Euphrasia, RGS (Angelina T. Fucillo) died at Epoch of Harwich on February 15, 2007 after a long illness. She was 77 years of age and had been a Good Shepherd Sister for 55 years. Sister Mary Euphrasia was born in Lynn, MA, the daughter of Henry and Nancy (Nichiniello) Fucillo. A high school graduate she entered the Good Shepherd Novitiate in Peekskill, NY in 1951 to begin her formal training for her long career caring for the poor and marginalized of society, with special focus on teen-age girls and women. She received the habit on May 7, 1951 and was given the name of the Foundress of the Good Shepherd Sisters, St. Mary Euphrasia. She professed her First Vows in 1954, her Final Vows in 1957. She ministered in Good Shepherd residential treatment centers in Boston, MA, Troy, NY and Wickatunk, NJ as a child care worker, clothing and home economics teacher, infirmarian, and cook. She was missioned to Marlborough in 1974 and attended the LPN training program at Massachusetts Bay Community College and spent many years as a nurse-aide at Sudbury Pines Nursing Home in Sudbury, MA. Sister Mary Euphrasia celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of her profession at Good Shepherd Center in Marlborough on June 24, 2001, with her family, Sisters and her very many friends, all of whom agreed that she was generous to a fault and "would do anything for you!" Sister Mary Euphrasia is survived by her sister, Gina Perillo of Florida, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was close to her stepfather, Vincent Caputo, who has pre-deceased her. She was also the sister of the late Sister Nilus, CSJ. Visiting hours at Good Shepherd Center will be held on Monday February 19, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. There will be a Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at the Good Shepherd Center Chapel on Hemenway Street on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. by Rev.Robert Rivard. Interment will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, (WWW.SFCFH.COM) 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Expressions of sympathy in Sister Mary Euphrasia's memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd, a world-wide congregation, was founded in France by St. Mary Euphrasia in 1835, in Boston in 1867, Marlborough, 1964 and Harwichport, 1993.
