Boston- Sr. Rita Curran, LSA, 79, died Friday January 28, 2011 at Marie Ester Health Center, Marlborough. She was born in Boston Massachusetts, Sr. Rita entered the Little Sisters of the Assumption in 1950 . She made final vows in 1958 in Paris France. Sr. Rita was a registered nurse.
For Sr.Rita, the pursuit of justice for those who were most impoverished filled her being and every action of her life. In East Harlem New York, Roxbury and Worcester Massachusetts, Wallins Creek Kentucky and in Peru this woman of small stature was a force to be reckoned with. Through out the 61 years of her religious life she pursued this goal with a simple, loving, compassionate and relentless presence. From the beginning to the end of her life, she will be remembered as a women whose passion for the poor moved her to tirelessly give of herself.
Sr. Rita is survived by her cousin Margaret Bane of Boston, Ma.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday February 8 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sisters of St. Anne Chapel, 720 Boston Post Road, Marlborough. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Broadway Street, Malden. Calling hours will be held Saturday morning from 9:30-11:00 in the Convent, 720 Boston Post Road. Expressions of sympathy in Sr. Rita's name may be made to the Little Sisters of the Assumption, 100 Gladstone Avenue, Walden, NY 12586. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
