Marlborough- Sister Jean Immaculate Conception Brown, died at Good Shepherd Center on January 4, 2015 after a long illness. Sister Jean was 85 years of age and had been a Contemplative Sister of the Good Shepherd for 69 years. Sister Jean was born in 1929 in Waltham, MA, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Dunn) Brown. Sister Jean attended St. Paul's School in Worcester, MA. In 1945 Sister Jean entered the Contemplative Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Springfield, MA where she received her training in the life and mission of the Contemplative Sisters. Sister Jean made her first vows in 1948 and her final profession of vows in 1958.
After eighteen years in the Springfield community, Sister Jean was missioned to the Contemplative community on Huntington Avenue in Boston, MA. In 1964 the Good Shepherd community moved from Boston to Marlborough, MA and Sister Jean continued her life of work and prayer there. A small community of Contemplative Sisters was founded in Harwichport, MA and in 1992 Sister Jean joined the community there until 2009 when she once again returned to Good Shepherd Center in Marlborough, MA. In addition to her service in the Altar Bread Department, Sister also spent many hours in the Sewing Department and assisting in the Sisters' infirmary. Sister was also a very gifted artist, and over the years has created beautiful handcraft items and paintings. She generously gave her expert assistance to many of the Sisters' art projects at Good Shepherd Center. Her works of art have been very popular items at various craft fairs and gift shops. Sister Jean leaves her beloved Good Shepherd Community of 69 years.
Visiting hours will be at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlborough, MA on January 8, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Sister Jean at Good Shepherd Center on January 9, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury, MA.

The Sisters of the Good shepherd were founded by St. Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in Angers, France in 1835, in the United States (Louisville, KY) in 1843, and in Boston in 1867.
