Obituary

MARLBOROUGH- Sister Marie Bedard, Sister of St. Anne, known in religion as Sister Marie Luce-de-Jesus, died at the age of 99 at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlborough Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008. She was in the 79th year of religious life. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Evelina Ladouceur of Montreal. She completed both her elementary, secondary and normal school education in Montreal. She obtained a B.E. degree at Catholic Teachers College in Providence; a B.A. degree from Anna Maria College in Paxton and a M.A. degree from Assumption College in Worcester. In 1927, she entered the Novitiate of the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec, and pronounced her vows in 1929. She began her teaching career in the Province of Quebec until her transfer to the United States in 1932, where she was a language teacher at Holy Name Elementary and Holy Name High School in Worcester; then on to St. Jean in Newton, Precious Blood Elementary and High School in Holyoke, St. Anne in Turners Falls, St. Anne Academy in Marlborough and Notre Dame in Central Falls, R.I. Sister was assistant professor of modern languages at Anna Maria College before retiring from the classroom. She continued serving as a private tutor and in social work as a visitor to the Spanish community and to the elderly. Sister Marie is survived by her nephew, Yves Moisan and his wife, Lise, of Le Gardeur, Quebec, and nieces, Jacqueline Bedard Kanaya of Montreal and Jeannette Poirier of Ville dAnjou, Quebec. The wake will take place at St. Anne Convent, 720 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough, Sunday, Sept. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. in the convent chapel with burial in Saint Mary Cemetery, Marlborough. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fitzgerald & Collins funeral Home (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough. A memorial contribution may be made to the Sisters of St. Anne Retirement Fund or to a charity of one's choice.
