MARLBOROUGH- Sister Agnes Perpetual Help Galvin, A Sister of the Good Shepherd, Contemplative Community, died on August 31, 2006, at Epoch of Harwich Nursing Center, after a short illness. She was 91 years of age and was a Contemplative Sister for 73 years. Sister Agnes was a native of Somerville, MA and was the daughter of Philip and Rose Mary (Gilligan) Galvin. She was educated in the Boston School System. She leaves many nephews & nieces. In 1933 Sister Agnes entered the Contemplative Community of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in Peekskill, NY and in 1936 she professed her vows. The Sisters of the Good Shepherd take the Vows of Poverty, Celibacy, Obedience and the fourth Vow of Zeal to work and pray for the Salvation of all Persons. Sister Agnes expressed her Vow of Zeal by praying and uniting her sufferings to the suffering of Christ for all of human kind. Sister Agnes served our Congregation in many of our convents. She was gifted by doing creative sewing and by the sewing of Church Vestments, as well as making habits for the sisters. Her presence among the Sisters imparted strength to our community. The sisters and all who knew her will miss Sister Agnes. The wake for Sister Agnes will be from 4 to 8 pm, Monday, Sept. 4, 2006 at Good Shepherd Center, Marlborough, MA, with a prayer service at 6:30pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be 10:00 am on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 at Good Shepherd Center, 406 Hemenway Street, Marlboro, MA. Funeral arrangements made by Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln St. Marlborough, MA 01752. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Sister Agnes's memory may be made to the Good Shepherd Retirement Fund, 406 Hemenway St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
