Obituary

Marlborough – Richard H. Toohey, 103, of Marlborough, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at The Reservoir Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (LaFrance) Toohey, who predeceased him in 2015.

Born, raised, and educated in Marlborough, he was the son of the late James C. and Bridget L. (Foster) Toohey. A proud veteran, he served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in 1943. He remained devoted to his fellow veterans through his membership in the American Legion Post 132.

Richard worked for many years in sales with Coca-Cola, retiring in 1986. Known for his compassion, generosity, and outgoing nature, he brought warmth to every room he entered. He especially cherished traveling and spent many winters in Florida with his wife Barbara, enjoying the sunshine and the simple joys of life together.

He is survived by five nephews: John F. Toohey of Nashua, NH; Charles Toohey of Chelsea, VT; David Toohey of Worcester; Paul Toohey of Maynard; and James Toohey of Hanover. He also leaves behind numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by his kind spirit.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Monday, May 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.
