Obituary

Dr. Milos Stastny, 95, a resident of Ashland, Massachusetts, for over 40 years and more recently of Framingham for 3 years, passed away on November 28th, 2024. Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, he was the son of Otakar and Bozena Stastny. He is survived by his daughters, Blanka and Sunny, and his grandson, Alexandros.

Dr. Stastny spent his early career in Prague as a pharmacist and later as a biochemist at the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.  He frequently lectured at Charles University. In 1966 his work brought him to the United States, where he joined Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. There, he collaborated with Dr. Stanley Cohen, co-authoring a number of research papers before Dr. Cohen was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. His career continued with positions at Technicon Corp in New York and Corning Glass Works in North Carolina and New York. He concluded his distinguished career at Ciba-Corning Diagnostics in Medfield, Massachusetts, where he was honored as a Research Fellow shortly before retiring in 1994. Throughout his professional life, Dr. Stastny found immense satisfaction in his work and contributions to science.

Beyond his accomplishments, Dr. Stastny led a life filled with passions and hobbies. He was an ardent tennis player, known for his spirited love of the game, and he avidly followed the greats of the sport, keeping up with tennis tournaments around the world.  A Pilsner beer enthusiast, he paired his love of Czech traditions with an appreciation for classical music, particularly the works of Dvořák and Smetana. In his later years, he found joy and tranquility in the natural beauty of Ashland State Park.

Dr. Stastny was a fiercely independent and complex man whose fiery spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.  His wit and unfiltered honesty were as memorable as they were unpredictable.  He will be remembered with fondness, respect, and colorful stories by his family, friends and all who crossed his path.  He will be deeply missed.

Dr. Stastny requested not to have any services.  Rather, share a memory with family and friends.
