Michael J. O'Grady, Jr. ("Trooper"), 59, of Mendon, MA, formerly of Framingham, died January 9, 2010 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Michael was born in Framingham, MA on 12-26-50, the son of the late Barbara (Jackman) and Michael J. O'Grady. He attended Framingham schools and worked for several years at Spear and Staff in Wellesley before graduating as president of his nursing class from Joseph P. Keefe Technical School in 1975. Michael devoted his entire career to geriatric care, working for many years in a supervisory capacity at Vernon Hall in Cambridge.
He is survived by two sisters, Shanna O'Grady Frost of Milford and Erin C. O'Grady of Framingham, a nephew, Adam C. Frost and his wife Eileen of Mendon, with whom he lived, a great nephew, Andrew M. Frost of Mendon, an aunt, Patricia O'Grady Roberts of Ft, Myers, FL, an uncle, Arthur F. Jackman of Bedford, NH, and a large extended family. He had many life-long friends and was especially close to Pamela Ponce de Leon of Cambridge and a cousin, John McDonough of Worcester.
Michael was known for his sharp wit, his compassion, and his generosity of spirit, all of which sustained him during his final illness. He will be remembered as well for his kind and gentle nature, his remarkable dignity, and his quiet strength.
A Mass in celebration of Michael's life will be held at Holy Angels Church, I Milford St., Upton, MA on Monday, January 18 at 9:00 AM. Burial in St. Stephen's Cemetery in Framingham will be private. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations in Michael's memory be made to The Giving Tree, St. Camillus Health Center, 447 High St., Whitinsville, MA, 01588.
