Matz, Meredith L. 39, of Marlborough, MA, beloved daughter of Leonard and Marilyn and sister of Michelle, passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 26, 2014. She was born in Buffalo, NY and was a 1993 graduate of Williamsville North High School where she was President of the Vocal Music Department, Vice-President of National Honor Society and a member of the Science Olympiad Team. Meredith received her bachelor's degree in 1998 from Beloit College in Chemistry and Physical Anthropology. She was a Principal Analyst at Genzyme and had worked there for the past 14 years. She lived in Europe as a child, and in recent years traveled around the country and world with her roommate, Jennifer Strand, where she kayaked, hiked, and snowshoed. Meredith cherished her cats, Cleo and Sam, and was a voracious reader, lifelong student, lover of all things science fiction and an amazing cook. She is survived by her parents, Dr. Leonard L. and Marilyn J. Matz of Appleton, NY; her sister Michelle (Matz) Wartak and husband Martin of Cambridge, MA; paternal Grandmother, Ruby Matz, of Lac du Flambeau, WI, and six aunts and uncles: Karen and Dean Ferguson, Gary and Theresa Jones, Dennis and Ann Matz, Eric and Betsy Matz, Peter and Ann Matz, and Timothy and Ellen Matz, as well as 18 cousins. Meredith will be dearly missed by her family and friends and remembered for her wonderful smile, quick wit, kindheartedness, and love of nature. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Saturday, November 1st, at 3pm at the Tower Hill Botanic Garden, 11 French Drive, Boylston, MA with visitation from 1-3pm. Her Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 10:30am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 7147 Ridge Road, Lockport, NY, where she was a cantor, with visitation prior to the service at 10am. She will be buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Arbor Vitae, WI, following a brief service at Nimsgern Funeral Home, Woodruff, WI. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Meredith can be made to Sterling Animal Shelter ( http://www.sterlingshelter.org ) 17 Laurelwood Rd, Sterling, MA 01564.
