IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Megid A.
Calek
May 8, 1942 – February 20, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Megid Abdel Calek, 82, who died on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Vantage Health & Rehab in Milford after a brief illness. Megid was the beloved husband of Maria Das Gracas (Silva) Calek for the past 37 years.
Born in São Francisco do Glória, Minas Gerais, Brazil, Megid was the son of the late Cabalen Abdel Calek and Julia Abdel Calek. He was raised and educated in São Francisco do Glória, where he developed his passion for culture, geography, and learning about the world.
In his early years, Megid worked as a bank teller and spent many years managing his uncle's gas station in Brazil. After relocating to Massachusetts, he worked for many years as a valued member of the waitstaff at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Natick. His dedication and warm personality left a lasting impression on those who had the pleasure of working with him.
Megid was a devout Christian and a longtime member of the Rivers of Living Water International Ministry Mirav in Marlborough. He was a vibrant and generous spirit, known for his wonderful sense of humor and his knack for giving everyone a memorable nickname. He loved Brazilian Folk music and dancing the Tango, and his joy for life was infectious to all around him.
A true lover of learning, Megid had a deep curiosity about cultures around the world, particularly those of Brazil and Lebanon. He took great pride in his knowledge of geography, impressing everyone with his ability to name nearly every capital city in the United States and across the globe. He was an eternal optimist with a positive outlook on life, no matter the circumstances.
Megid's love for Brazilian soccer was unmatched, and he was an avid fan of both Cruzeiro and Brazil's National Team, the Selecao Brasileira. He often fondly reminisced about watching the legendary Pele play. While in Brazil, one of his greatest joys was being a caretaker to the animals on his father's farm, where he lovingly raised them from birth.
In addition to his wife, Maria, Megid leaves behind three sons, Abdel A. Calek of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Mauricio A. Calek and his wife Moab , and Cabalen A. Calek and his wife Liliegina both of Boca Raton, Florida; a daughter Marcia A. Ribeiro and her husband Edson of Boca Raton, Florida; a brother Edson A. Calek of Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, Brazil; three grandchildren, Rebecca, Sarah, Isabella and a step-granddaughter Lillian; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
