IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maureen E.
Betses
June 24, 1952 – August 17, 2025
Hudson- Maureen E. (Deignan) Betses, 73, of Hudson, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, August 17, 2025. She was the beloved wife of James A. Betses, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Lowell, Maureen was the daughter of the late James A. and Elsie L. (Welch) Deignan. She was a graduate of Keith Hall Catholic High School, Class of 1970, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Lowell State College.
Maureen began her professional career at New England Business Services, Inc., where she worked for many years, before serving as director of customer service at Wearguard. She later joined Harvard Business School Publishing, where she dedicated 21 years to corporate management in educational publishing, retiring after a long and accomplished career. At Harvard, Maureen was known not only for her skill and leadership but also for her mentorship. She had a gift for recognizing talent in others, often guiding those she supervised toward promotions—even beyond her own position. Many credited their professional growth to her support, encouragement, and belief in their potential.
A woman of deep compassion, Maureen lived her life in service to others. She was a former member of Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell and had a lifelong love of music, blessed with a beautiful voice that led her to record songs with the Belfast Cowboys. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sharing her home with her beloved dogs. Maureen and Jim especially cherished their Glen of Imaal Terrier, Scout, who proudly competed in the 2023 Westminster Dog Show.
Maureen will be remembered as kind, caring, and compassionate, with a heart that touched everyone she encountered.
She leaves her husband of 51 years, James A. Betses of Hudson; a brother Robert Deignan and his wife Melissa of Townsend; a brother-in-law David A. Betses and his wife Jean Anne of Kennebunkport, Maine; many nephews, nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers David, Jimmy and Alan.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday August 23 at 10 AM in Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Fr. John Sarantos Way, Lowell. Burial will follow in Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson, MA. Calling hours will be held Friday August 22 from 6-8 PM in the Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. All are invited to sign Maureen's online guestbook at collinsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Maureen's memory to AFTD - The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration.
