William "Bill" Shunney, U.S.A.F.

Marlborough- William P. "Bill" Shunney, 86, of Las Vegas, passed away, Thursday, Aug 18, 2016. He was born and raised in Marlborough the son of the late Sophie (Koczan) Tuikka and the late Thomas Shunney. He was the step-son of the late John Tuikka. Bill was a 48-year resident of Las Vegas. He was a graduate of Marlborough High School Class of 1948 and later graduated cum laude from Worcester State College in Massachusetts. Shortly after graduation he entered the U.S. Air Force as a pilot where he served for over 20 years flying the B-47, B-58 a supersonic very high altitude bomber, F-105 in a combat tour in S.E. Asia flying 100 missions over North Vietnam in 1968 and F-111A aircraft. He was awarded the DFC (distinguished flying cross for related combat duties). Following his retirement from the Air Force, Bill did graduate work in Business Administration at UNLV and became a certified financial planner. He was an owner and manager of his own commodities firm and was associated with Rausher, Pierce, Refsnes, Inc and New York Life Insurance Company. Bill served as a Lector/Eucharistic Minister at Holy Redeemer Church for many years. Bill was a wonderful and devoted husband to his wife Jane Shunney (nee San Hamel of Chicago) for more than 50 years and has many friends throughout the valley.
Bill's funeral services were held in Nevada. He is buried in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation to a charity of your choice.
