Obituary

Lillian P. Lucas, 92, of Framingham and formerly of Newington, CT, Easton, MA and Shelter Island, NY, loving wife of the late Ernest S. Lucas, died on Saturday March 3, 2007 at Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham, MA with her granddaughter and husband by her side. Mrs. Lucas was born on December 31, 1914 in East Hartford. She was the daughter of the late Albin and Ida (Carlson) Peterson and had been a resident of the Hartford area until the early 1950's. Employed as a bookkeeper, she worked for Traveler's Insurance, Underwood Typewriter Company and the Shelter Island Heights Association. She and her brother Eric also worked and traveled across the country spending most of their time in the western states. A member of the Lutheran Church, Gardiner's Bay Country Club and a women's bowling league for many years, she also enjoyed cooking, crosswords, her cats and especially family games of pinochle. She spent much of her life caring for family members. In her early years she helped to financially support her widowed mother and family during the Depression and WWII and in later years both her mother and brother Eric lived with her. After raising her own daughter she also helped take care of her granddaughter. Lillian will be remembered by her family as a warm, thoughtful, generous woman with a good sense of humor and a quick wit. She leaves her granddaughter Kristin Trelegan and her husband Tom of Ashland, MA; a daughter, Joan Lucas of Nova Scotia, Canada and Maine; a sister-in-law Martha Peterson of Wethersfield, CT; a godson, Nils Johnson of Henderson, NV and several nephews and nieces, including Gary Peterson of Simsbury, Connecticut and Donna Donahue of Sunnyvale, California. She was pre-deceased by four brothers, two sisters and her beloved husband of 45 years, Ernie. Graveside services will be held in the spring on Shelter Island, NY. There are no calling hours. Special thanks go out to Nina Gursha, a devoted caregiver and friend who enabled Lillian to stay in her home as was her wish until needing full-time care in 2004; the residents of Mission Springs Supportive Housing in Holliston; Golden Pond Adult Day Program in Hopkinton, especially Peggy; the staff of Carlyle House Nursing Facility in Framingham; and the staff of Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham.
