Kenneth J.
Mazzrillo, Sr.
Aug 9, 1946 — Oct 15, 2026
Ken was known for his exceptional “Get it done right” talents and was always in great demand.
Kenneth J. Mazzrillo, Sr., 80, formerly of Averill Park (Troy/Wynantskill) New York, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at UMass Memorial Medical Center – Marlborough Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Kathleen (Casey) Mazzrillo.
Ken was born in Troy, New York, the son of the late Frank and Sophie (Spiak) Mazzrillo. He spent his career as a road construction foreman for several companies throughout the Troy area. Highly regarded for his skill and craftsmanship, Ken was known for his exceptional “Get it done right” talents and was always in great demand.
Ken was an entrepreneur in his earlier years with businesses throughout the Troy area. His ventures included a corner store, a flower shop, and most notably a pizza place. Anyone who knew Ken can attest he could make a pizza like no other. He especially enjoyed making them for his family whenever they visited and we most certainly enjoyed every bite. He was quite a good cook!
Outside of work, Ken had a passion for collecting and selling classic cars. He especially loved convertibles, with two of his favorites being his 1975 Cadillac Eldorado and the pride of his fleet, a 1966 Buick Wildcat. The Wildcat held such a special place in his heart that he shed a tear when the day came to part with it. He also enjoyed fishing and “horticulture”, finding pleasure in both the outdoors and the things he loved to cultivate. His love for adventure and animals was passed down to his children and grandchildren and will continue to be passed down to future generations. He loved when the grandchildren would visit to bring them fishing, do target practice, and just show them the great outdoors. One of Ken’s fondest memories was alligator hunting with his grandsons in Florida. He displayed pictures throughout his house and even an alligator skull from the hunt. Ken always told people about the alligator hunting with the same pride as any of his MANY car show trophies.
“Amazing Acres” (aka his home in Averill Park) held a special place in Ken’s heart.
He also liked belonging to clubs. Again, in his earlier years, he was a member of a Van Club that would travel to van meets at different campground locations throughout the Northeast. The vans would park in a big circle, and everyone would camp together and have quite the weekend. Later in life he was a member of various classic car clubs. He liked to be around people who shared similar interests.
“Amazing Acres” (aka his home in Averill Park) held a special place in Ken’s heart. The house was literally a shack when he bought it over 40 years ago. Over the decades, it became both his home and happy place. The knotty pine walls and deep red paint were as distinctive as his signature. The double carport held his treasures and the nearly two acre spread was his personal animal sanctuary with deer, raccoon, opossum, skunk, every bird that calls NY home, and his favorite feral cat who was never friendly but always appreciated a full bowl everyday.
Above all else, Ken was devoted to his family and cherished close friends more than anything. He was known for his larger-than-life personality, flashy clothes, signature Stetson hats, and rattlesnake boots. Always ready for an adventure, Ken loved to travel and embrace life to the fullest. He made many trips to Mexico and Central America with his brother, Bobby. The stories he would share about those adventures would keep you on the edge of your seat and laughing hysterically. He and his late wife, Kathleen, also shared a deep love for animals and generously supported both charities and local wildlife. Every woodland critter and stray cat in Averill Park knew where to find a good meal on a cold night.
Ken leaves behind his daughter, Nancy A. DeSapio, and her husband, William P., of Jupiter, Florida; two sons, Kenneth J. Mazzrillo Jr., and his wife, Carrie, of Framingham, MA, and Max P. Fasciglione and his partner Lynn, of Fort Myers, Florida; two brothers, Frank Mazzrillo and his wife, Bea, of Hollywood, Florida, and Bobby Mazzrillo and his wife Debbie, of Mosier, Oregon; four grandsons; Casey and William K. (Mary) DeSapio, Garrett and Connor Mazzrillo; and a great-grandson, Kayden William DeSapio. He will be remembered for his unmistakable personality, his many passions, and, most of all, the love he had for his family.
Above all else, Ken was devoted to his family and cherished close friends more than anything.
We would like to extend a Heartfelt Thank You to his neighbor Steve in Averill Park. Steve was there to help with anything at any time and checked in on him on a regular basis.
Funeral services and burial will be privately held per Ken’s wishes.
