Obituary

Marlborough- Joseph W. Bennett, lovingly known as Joe, passed away on April 19, 2026, at UMASS Memorial Medical Center. Born on February 8, 1965, Joe lived a life rich with passion, generosity, and unwavering pride in his Italian heritage.

A 1983 graduate of Marlborough High School, Joe went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Central New England College. With a heart for community and entrepreneurship, he owned and operated J & J Sports at the Navin Rink in Marlborough, and later JWB Sports in Concord and Boxborough for many years before his recent retirement. Throughout his career, Joe's dedication and spirit shone brightly, leaving a lasting mark on those who knew him.

Joe was a man of many joys. In 2008, alongside his beloved wife Sheila, he began a cherished tradition of seasonal camping at Old Orchard Beach in Maine. There, they forged deep friendships and hosted joyful gatherings like Christmas in July and numerous other fun events, creating memories that warmed the hearts of all involved. His love extended to the music of Ozzy Osbourne concerts, sunny days at the beach—especially around Sebago Lake—and the excitement of the occasional casino trip. In his younger years, Joe found fulfillment training harness horses, an early testament to his hard work and dedication.

More than his interests, Joe was known for his generous, caring, and compassionate nature. His stubbornness was balanced by a candid honesty, always speaking what was on his mind with warmth and authenticity. He took great pride in his heritage and used his strengths to uplift those around him. His volunteer work with the Special Olympics and the Make-A-Wish Foundation stands as a testament to his enduring kindness and commitment to giving back.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Sheila M. (Chambers) Bennett; their daughter, Stephanie M. Peterson, and her husband Eric of Marlborough; his mother, Patricia E. (Taranto) Bennett of Marlborough; his beloved grandson, Lucas Josti of Marlborough; his brother, Robert E. Bennett IV of Hudson; and stepson Robert Mann of Warren, Maine. He is also remembered fondly by many aunts and cousins. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Bennett III.

Friends and loved ones are invited to honor Joe’s life at a visitation on Friday April 24, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. A graveside service will be held on April 25, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM at Eastwood Cemetery, 330 Old Common Road, Lancaster, MA 01523.

Joe Bennett’s legacy of love, laughter, and heartfelt generosity will live on in the spirits of all he touched. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
