IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John M.
Mcstay
September 10, 1934 – July 26, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of John Michael McStay, who passed away at the age of 90 on July 26, 2025. He now joins his beloved wife Carol in eternal rest, concluding a life marked by deep love, unwavering dedication, and quiet strength.
Born in Waltham, MA, John was the son of the late Patrick and Alice (Ryan) McStay. A proud veteran, loving husband, devoted father, and dedicated professional, John touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
John served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he began a long and distinguished career at Raytheon Corporation, where he dedicated over 43 years of service. His commitment, work ethic, and technical expertise left a lasting impact on the company and his colleagues.
A gifted and passionate gardener, John found great joy in nature and in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed his daily walks, meticulously cared for his lawn, and treasured time with his grandchildren. Known for his warm heart, sharp wit, and unconditional love, John especially enjoyed watching old Westerns and Army films on VHS, always with a smile and a story to share.
John was immensely proud of his children and the lives they built. Growing up with modest means, he overcame many challenges to create a legacy of love, integrity, and perseverance. He cherished his Irish heritage and was always learning, curious about the world, and deeply grateful for the blessings in his life. For over 60 years, he enjoyed annual family trips to York Beach—memories his family will always hold dear.
John leaves behind his loving children: Linda Moffa and her husband John, John McStay Jr. and his wife Maxine, Kate Foynes and her husband Mark, James McStay and his wife Cindy, Steven McStay and his wife Shari, and Patrick McStay. He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather whose love and guidance will continue to resonate through the generations. Above all, he shared a remarkable 65-year love story with his late wife Carol—a partnership that inspired all who witnessed it.
The McStay family extends heartfelt gratitude to the hospice professionals at CareDimensions for their compassionate care and support during John's final days.
