MARLBOROUGH- John C. "Jack" Geist, 91 of Marlborough and formerly of Silver Spring, Maryland died Saturday October 14, 2006 at Hearthstone at New Horizons. He was the husband of Margaret E. (Menard) Geist for the last 68 years. Besides his wife, he leaves a son Jon Geist, and his wife, Cathie of Olney, Maryland, and a daughter Jan Krause Greene, and her husband, Tim, of Marlborough; eight grandsons, a great-grandson and great-granddaughter. He was born in Shawan, Maryland the son of the late George E. and Helen P. (Gill) Geist and was a graduate of Newark High School and later received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware, in Newark, Delaware. He served as a Major in the U.S. Army during World War II and was assigned to Fort Monmouth Signal Corps Procurement District. Mr. Geist was an electrical engineer at Vitro Laboratories in Silver Spring, Maryland for 32 years, retiring in 1979 as Executive Vice President. He played a major role in Vitro's support of the Navy's ship-to-aircraft and fleet-ballistic missile programs. During his lifetime he wrote many technical publications on radio technology, both professionally and as a hobby, and received a patent. He was a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) and a Fellow of the Radio Club of America. During his career at Vitro, he served as Chairman of Board of the Maryland Division of the American Cancer Society. He was the first Eagle Scout in Newark, Delaware and an avid amateur (Ham) radio operator, who built his first radio as a teenager. He was also a 40-year member of Manor Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, where he hit two holes-in-one. Before moving to Massachusetts, he was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at Leisure World in Silver Spring, Maryland. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 11:00 am in Our Lady Of Grace Catholic Church (at Leisure World), 15661 NORBECK BOULEVARD, SILVER SPRING, MD. Burial will be held in the Geist Graveyard, Baltimore County, MD. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633 or the charity of donor's choice.
