Obituary

John Alan Forsyth, formerly of Woburn and the husband of the late Marian Cummings Forsyth, died on January 2, 2012 at New Horizons Retirement Community, Marlborough.

Born on May 19, 1923, John grew up in Boston and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, primarily in Burma, India, and China. He leaves his brother- and sister-in-law Bill and Joyce Cummings of Winchester, and four loving nieces and nephews.

John lived for many years on Wainwright Avenue, Woburn, and then at Place Lane Condominium. He was a devout member of St. Joseph's Church, where he served as an extraordinary minister, and also ran the bingo program for many years. Marian, a registered nurse, was a master teacher for St. Joseph's C.C.D. program. John was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Limerick, Maine, where they vacationed for many years. A man of unusually sharp wit, John, until the week before he died, liked nothing better than joking back and forth with his many friends and family. Rare were any of his casual comments that came without a double meaning.

Friends are invited to visit New Horizons on Thursday, January 5 between 10:00 and 11:00 AM, prior to his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. These services will be held in the Cardinal Cushing Chapel at New Horizons Retirement Community, 400 Hemenway Street (off Rt. 20 at Wilson Street), East Marlborough, followed by burial in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Donations may be made in John's memory to the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn, Charles Gardner Lane, Woburn, MA 01801. Arrangements by Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home( www.CollinsFuneral.com ), Marlborough.
