MARLBOROUGH - Harold J. Hancberg, 61, of Marlborough died at home Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009. He was born in New York City, the son of the late Frank and Doris Hancberg, and had lived in Marlborough for the last 26 years. He was a graduate of Lehman College and Mount Ida College and was a U.S. Army veteran. Harry held a myriad of jobs, from security guard to stock clerk, to fork-lift operator and maintenance engineer. He leaves no known relatives, but many close friends, including Edward G. and Emily Hillman of Pepperell, Clifford "Lefty" Comanor of Akron, Ohio, Lisa L. Morin of Marlborough, of whom he was very protective, John and Kathi Seier of Garrison, N.Y., William and Ellen Hillman of Bedford, N.Y., and Scott A. Martin of Marlborough. Affectionately known as "Uncle Harry" by Daniel, Sasa, James and Michael Hillman, he was a simple man with a heart of gold. Known for his listening skills, he never judged people and was always sympathetic to others' needs. Harry had an infectious laugh and a warmth about him. He loved playing Scrabble, which he was quite good at, and enjoyed reading, Cribbage, playing cards, watching war movies, and sports. Those closest to him considered him to have been a huge blessing in their lives. A member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Assembly Church in Worcester, he was devoted to the Lord.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m., at the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.
