MARLBOROUGH - George F. "Pappy" Lefevre, 65, of Northborough and formerly of Marlborough, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at Marlborough Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was the husband of Cheryl R. (Jensen) Lefevre, who died in 1979. Born and raised in Marlborough, he was the son of the late Olivier J. and Anna T. (Geary) Lefevre and was a graduate of Marlborough Vocational High School, Class of 1962. Pappy was a tool and die maker in his earlier years at Raytheon, and later became a CAD-CAM numerical control programmer. During his 34 years at Raytheon, he worked on the first Space Shuttle and Patriot Missile, retiring in 2006. He was a member of St. Bernadette's Church in Northborough and the former St. Mary's Church, where he taught CCD for over 30 years, and was a Eucharistic Minister. A member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, East Coast Computer Vision Users Group, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, he was a union steward and negotiator. He was a supporter of the United Way and Red Cross. Pappy was a resident of Birchwood Community in Northborough, where he was quite active compiling and designing its newsletter, and was on the committee for the Party for the Cure, a cancer research fundraiser that will be held in October. He enjoyed working with his hands, from woodworking to stained glass, and fishing, cribbage, camping, traveling via train, and was very creative with computer designs. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his generosity and quick wit. He was forever inviting people over for holiday dinners, always welcoming people, and had a way about him that made everyone feel welcome and comfortable.
He leaves his son, Robert O. Lefevre and his wife, Kelly H., of Northborough and two daughters, Christine M. O'Meara and her husband, John F. Sr., of New Sweden, Maine, and Laurie A. Booth and her husband, Benjamin T., of Burlington, N.C.; his longtime companion, Kathy J. Wright of Northborough; two brothers, Robert J. Lefevre of Northborough and Paul G. Lefevre of Marlborough; eight grandchildren, Perry J. Lefevre of Northborough, Anya E., John F. Jr., Thomas J. and James R. O'Meara, all of New Sweden, Timothy J. Ricci of Harwich, and Ashley C. Ricci and Benjamin N. Booth, both of Burlington, N.C.; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was the brother of the late Donald O. Lefevre, Marie M. Leazer and Margaret A. Kelley.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m., at St. Bernadette's Church, 266 Main Street, Northborough. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Marlborough. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Aug.. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Party for the Cure, c/o St. Mary's Credit Union, 133 West Main St., Marlborough, MA 01752.
