Obituary

MARLBOROUGH - Doris M. (Neuhaus) Tobin, 84, of Marlborough died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center. She was the wife of Thomas F. Tobin for 58 years. Born in Marlborough, the daughter of the late August and Marie (Koslowski) Neuhaus, she was a graduate of Marlborough High School, Class of 1941. As a young woman she worked for the Claude Williams Insurance Agency and the Marlborough School Department in the superintendent's office and truant office. Doris was a member of the Unitarian Church of Marlborough and Hudson, where she ran the church's former thrift shop, sang in the choir, and was a member of the former Evening Alliance. She enjoyed reading, was a former member of the Sweet Adelines, and was coordinator for the American Cancer Society's "Road to Recovery" program which provided transportation to patients for their doctors' appointments and cancer treatments. Doris was a very caring and generous woman, always downplaying any recognition given her for her kind acts towards others. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Philip K. Tobin of East Lansing, Mich., and Alan S. Tobin, Esq. and his wife, Maryjean, of Madison, Conn., and a daughter, Karen M. Tobin of Worcester; and five grandchildren, Taylor, Shannon, Brynn, Ryan and Kyle Tobin, all of Madison. She was predeceased by three brothers, A. Frederick, Ernest F. and Carl A. Neuhaus, and a sister,Erna M. Stickney.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 12, at 11 a.m., in the Lincoln Chapel of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street. Calling hours will be held Sunday, Jan. 11, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.
