Marlborough- Doris “Dado” (Hanley) Rice of Marlborough passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at Blaire House in Milford.

Born in 1933, Doris was raised and educated in Watertown. In 1956, she married the love of her life, James K. “Ken” Rice. Together they built a life centered on family and made their home in Marlborough, where they resided and raised their family for more than 50 years. Doris is survived by her four children: Donna Farley and her husband Frank of Holliston, James K. Rice Jr. of Marlborough, Robert Rice and his wife Joy of Manchester, New Hampshire and Richard Rice and his wife Robin of Parsonsfield, Maine. She also leaves behind ten beloved grandchildren: David, Taylor, Roberto, James III, Jillian, John, Douglas, Rene, Richard, and Alexis; five cherished great-grandchildren: Sophia, Maverick, Gabriela, Willow, and Max; her niece, Paula Bagge; and her dear friend, Barbie Christopher. 

She was predeceased by her parents, Francis J. and Eva (Brooks) Hanley; her beloved husband of 51 years, James K. Rice; her sister, Theresa McHugh; her brothers, Edward and Richard Hanley; and her grandson, Christian Levi Blais.

Dado devoted her life to her family. She loved cooking and was an exceptional baker, creating countless meals and treats that brought family and friends together. She hosted many holiday gatherings and celebrations over the years, and her door was always open to anyone in need of a warm welcome. Known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, Doris brought joy to those around her. As a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was loving, kindhearted, and selfless. She will always be remembered for her patience, strength, grace, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.

There are no calling hours. A private family graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Blaire House in Milford for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to Doris during her time there.
