Marlborough- Donald E. "Don" Auger, 79, of Marlborough died peacefully with his family by his side on Friday March 7, 2008 in Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center. He was born in Marlborough, the son of the late Adelaide and Jean (Lacoture) Auger. He was educated in Marlborough and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War having served in the European Theater. He leaves two sons, Marlborough Firefighter Daniel P. Auger of Braintree and Michael G. Auger of Chester, VA; a sister, Doris Benard of Marlborough; his former wife, Stella C. (LaFrance) Selig of Prince George, VA; six grandchildren, two nephews and two nieces. He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Roland Auger and two sisters, Irene White and Rhea Rougeau. Don retired as head of the custodial department at Marlborough High School in 1991. He previously worked as a shoe cutter for 27 years at Frye Boot in Marlborough. He was a member of the American Legion Post 132, AmVets Post 1980, VFW Post 638, Hudson Elks Logde 959 and was a former member of the ITAM Club. Don played semi-professional baseball for the Catholic Order of Forrester's, and was an avid candlepin bowler and diehard Red Sox fan. He will be remembered by his family as "the nicest man you could ever meet and a delight to be around." A graveside service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Calling hours will be held Monday 5-8 p.m. in the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough. Family and friends are invited to sign Don's online guestbook at www.SFCFH.com.
