Obituary

Marlborough- Charles R. "Dick" Small, 84, of Marlborough and formerly of Weston died Tuesday December 28, 2010 at Newton Wellesley Alzheimer Center in Wellesley. He was the husband of Anna J. (Commons) Small for the past 55 years. He was born in Waltham and raised in Weston, the son of the late George and Evelyn (Ware) Small and attended Weston High School. Dick was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He worked for the Town of Weston Highway Department as a truck driver for over twenty years retiring in 1987. He also plowed snow for many years. After retiring he worked part time for the Weston Police Department maintaining their police cruisers. Prior to working for the town he worked for J.J. Malone & Sons Trucking of Weston for many years. He loved working outdoors, taking caring of his yard. He had a large collection of Hess trucks and ball caps, and was a NASCAR fan.
He leaves two sons, Thomas J. Small of Apache Junction, AZ and Edward P. Small of Charlton; a daughter Sally A. Sinclair of Norwell; a sister Margery McGraw of Sudbury; three grandchildren, Jessica, Nicholas and Kaitlynn; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Monday January 3, 2011 at Linwood Cemetery, Route 20 Weston at 11:00 a.m. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Newton Wellesley Alzheimer Center, 694 Worcester Road, Wellesley, MA 02842. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.CollinsFuneral.com), 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
