Obituary

Carol A. (Desmond) Dion Carpenter, 89, formerly of Hudson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Dion, who passed away in 1986.

Born in Boston and raised in Brighton, Carol was the daughter of the late James and Anna (Ring) Desmond. She was a proud graduate of Saint Columbkille School and later earned her degree from Boston University.

Carol lived life with passion and purpose. She found joy in a wide range of interests— walking along the beach, curating unique items for her vintage wardrobe, exploring new places through travel, and cooking delicious meals and desserts. She was also an avid reader who devoured books and newspapers, always eager to learn and stay updated on current events, especially the latest scores for Boston sports teams.

Carol had a strong sense of self and was known for her confidence, quick wit, and unwavering resilience. She never shied away from speaking her mind and faced life's challenges with grit and grace.

Later in life she married William Carpenter. They lived in West Barnstable and York Beach, Maine, traveled extensively, and enjoyed the warm climate of southern California during the winter months.

Furthermore, Carol adored her granddaughters and great-granddaughter and treasured every moment spent with them. Her love, strength, and fierce independence leave an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She leaves a son, Greg Dion and his wife Cindy of Marlborough; three daughters, Ann Brangiforte and her husband Steve of Marlborough, Michelle Keene of Chestnut Hill, and Kristin Bartucca and her husband Mike of Boston; six granddaughters, Jocelyn, Hannah, Emily, Alex, Jill, and Abby; and a great-granddaughter, Halle.

A Mass will be held Friday at  10  am in Immaculate Conception Church, Prospect Street, Marlborough.  A reception at Marlborough Country Club will follow the Mass.  A private burial will be held at Forestvale Cemetery, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. All are invited to sign Carol's online guestbook at collinsfuneral.com. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough.
