MARLBOROUGH - Barbara C. (Cox) White, 72, of Marlborough, formerly of Newburg, N.Y., died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at home after a short period of failing health. Her husband, Capt. Claude L. Hough III, USAF, died in 1967. She was born in Middletown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Elliott and Verda L. (Wolfe) Cox, and was a graduate of Newburg Free Academy and the Manhattan School of Music, where she received both bachelor of arts and master's degrees in music performance.
An accomplished pianist, Barbara was a music teacher in the New York state school system. She enjoyed performing with celebrated artists such as Robert Shaw and Leonard Bernstein, various choral groups and musical theatre and throughout her life, she enjoyed a wide variety of musical events. Reading and vacationing on Cape Cod were also her special interests.
She leaves two daughters, Marjorie E. Howard of Marlborough and Judith H. Fuller, Esq. of Atlanta; a brother, Robert E. Cox of New York; four grandsons, Jon-Teylor and Tai Vives, and Corey and Ryan Howard, all of Marlborough; a cousin, Fay Willey of New York City; and a niece, Chantel Cooper of Buffalo, N.Y.
A funeral service will be held Monday, July 13 at 7 p.m. at the Good Shepherd Center Chapel, 400 Hemenway St., Marlborough. A time of visitation will be held in the Chapel prior to the service, from 6 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
