Obituary

MARLBOROUGH - Anna V. (Carey) McDonald, 79, of Marlborough, formerly of Worcester, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at Marlborough Hospital, after an illness. She was the wife of Charles L. McDonald Jr., who died in 1971. Born and raised in Boston, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Anna P. (Uhrle) Carey. She was a 1944 graduate of Roslindale High School and a 1946 graduate of Cambridge Graduate School. Mrs. McDonald was employed as a secretary for the Worcester Housing Authority for 18 years before retiring in 1981. A past president of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 359 in Jamaica Plain, she was also past president of Columbia Point Dump Committee and very active in the political scene, having volunteered many hours for then-Sen. John F. Kennedy's presidential campaign and for Congressman Joseph Early and state Rep. Bobby Bohigian. She was an avid reader who enjoyed crosswords and writing to family and friends worldwide, including her pen pal, Vincent Bohman, secretary to the King of Norway, with whom she corresponded for many years. She was a member of the State, County & Municipal Employees Association and volunteered more than 1000 hours to the VA Hospital in Jamaica Plain. She leaves two sons, Charles L. McDonald III of Marlborough and Patrick M. McDonald of Boston; two daughters, Frances E. Vincent of Marlborough and Carol A. Paul of Nova Scotia, Canada; five grandsons; seven granddaughters; seven great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; and many cousins. She was the mother of William E. and Marion L. McDonald, who died several years ago, sister of the late Edward P. Carey of Boston and stepdaughter of Bertha A. (Griffin) Carey of Boston, who died many years ago. Her funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m., in the Lincoln Chapel of the Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home (www.SFCFH.com), 378 Lincoln St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Cambridge Street, Worcester. Calling hours are Monday, Feb. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
