Sr. Therese Milot, SSA

Sr. Therese Milot (Sr. Marie Helena) , 94, a Sister of St. Anne, died December 20 2018 in Marie Esther Health Center in this city. Born in Providence RI, she was the second child of nine born to Lucien J. and Maria (Auprey) Milot. She was a graduate of Concord High School, Concord. She joined the Sisters of St. Anne in Lachine, Quebec and pronounced vows in 1946. Sister Therese began her teaching career at the First Nations Caughnawaga Day School. She then returned to the United States and over the next twenty three years taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of St. Anne in New England. She earned a B.Ed. degree from Catholic Teacher College in Provi- dence, RI and an M.A.T. degree in Theology and Religious Education from Providence College. She welcomed students at the elementary level in Greylock, North Adams, and Ware in Massachusetts, in Springvale, Maine, in Central Falls and in Manville, RI. She was a secondary school teacher in Holyoke and in Marlboro MA. She was also Dean of Students at the former St. Anne Academy in this city. In later years, Sr. Therese moved to St. Annes Convent and used her creative gifts as the manager of the Craft Shop and in music ministry as a frequent soloist in the convent choir. For almost fifteen years, she wrote the day to day history of the convent activities for the archives. Her love of teaching remained strong as a CCD Instructor and later as Director of Religious Education at St. Matthias Parish in Marlborough. Sister Milot leaves to grieve her sisters: Claire Roux, Madeleine Wright, Helene Levasseur, Marie Aroyo, Lucie Biscelgia, and Cecile Couture, extended family, caregivers and the Sisters of St. Anne. There will be a viewing hour on Thursday, December 27 from 9:15 | 10:15 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am that will be celebrated in the convent chapel at 720 Boston Post Road East. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in her name to the Sisters of St. Anne Retirement Fund, 720 Boston Post Road East, Marlborough, MA 01752, or to a charity of your choice .
